We are not lazy

everyday life in Ghana.

Aah! How can a young, beautiful Ghanaian lady carry this heavy
and hot but delicious “Bofrot” and “Nkatie”, walk for miles to the busy Accra
road in the clear glare of the dangers of being knocked down by some “Okada” or “Trotro”;
and you call this person lazy?
So big ups to fellow young and even old people out there who
are doing their own small things. I salute you all and hail you from the Fan Milk
seller to the sponge seller and the “trotro” mate – you do all. We go make am
one day.

I sometimes listen to some people on radio and TV talk shows, and it's sad how some of them pass comments like “the youth of today don’t like
work, they don’t like hard work”. Herh! This is a blatant lie. On the contrary,
my colleague youth love to work, but there are no sustainable jobs out there.

In my beautiful Ghana and other parts of Mama Africa, if you
want to know how willing young people want to work, just interact with some of
them or count the number of young people who sell on the streets. Be very careful
not to think say all of them be school dropouts oo. Oh yes! Be very careful. And
even if they are; similar drop outs in other parts of the world dey make am big
time. Because in Ghana, it has been a common mantra that only school drop outs
end on the streets. Ebi false. There are people with professional certificates,
diploma and even masters degree.
Charlie, sometimes erh, the people who always dey amaze me
bi the sponge sellers. “Aboowa”! Dem dey force waa. Because how many people
will buy a new sponge every day? But this is to prove that they are not lazy. And
bear in mind that the ones on the street selling and hustling are but a few. The
others dey home.
Me self, my guy bi talk me say I for add am to my budget
this month ending if my pay come sake of idry waaaaa. As a friend too, I for
help am.

DeleteNice...but GH youth dey fear the big men n that be y we go continue like this.. they make fast take politics divide the youth front so what we for stand together n fight as youth for our upliftment nu we go rather defend our political 'gods'... Necessary chaos is a must. See how high school kids in the west dey strike for climate action wey demma leaders dey look sharp n act...
ReplyDeleteCharlie, the thing you talk be true waa. Dem use politics to divide the youth. Some years ago it was football. They used Kotoko and Hearts to divide us between NDC and NPP lines. We reasoned and now its the mainstream parties themselves. We for reason up.
ReplyDeleteYou talk true paaa. God bless our hustle
